TOM HOM
Civic Leader

A politician, businessman and civic leader, Tom Hom has a long history serving San Diego. He was elected as San Diego's first minority city councilman in the 1960s and is still the only Asian-American to have served on that elected body. Hom is also one of the founders of the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego, taking it from a rundown and neglected neighborhood to the city’s premiere tourist attraction. His recently released book “Rabbit on a Bump Road” tells of his life as a Chinese and Asian American growing up in southern California.
